Can Pinging damage my engine?

my car was pinging for a couple of seconds on the freeway as I floored it, because i wasnt getting enough fuel...now its fixed..

yes in the long term...no in the short term.

Depends on how bad it is. If you're running 21psi of boost on pump gas, the detonation is going to burn holes in your pistons very quickly.

It only took my buddy about 4 minutes of driving his 3000gt with the fuel computer set wrong before it burned off the edges of two of the pistons and the top ring on each one.
