Default Can someone explain this timeslip for me?

Went to the drag races last night to watch, but had to run a few times after I got the itch. I watched all the rice cars run with and without Nitrous. The best I saw was a 9.5 Civic Si that was all motor. He said he had put over $10,000 into it. Then a 300 ZX twin turbo with about $6,000 in mods ran a 9.40. Well, since no one was close to my times I wasn't going to run. Then a Supra shows up. He said he had 400 hp at the wheels (also said he has run in the 7's). He ran a 8.98 first time, then a 9.20, then an 8.70. So everybody wanted us to race. So I obliged. I wanted to run a few first to practice launching. I ran a 9.089 with a 1.924 60. Then I ran an 8.966 with a 1.866 60 ft. Then we raced. Here's what I need explained. How is his mph so much more than mine at the traps. He was only 1 1/2 car length ahead of me at most and barely pulling me. The only time he pulled on me was shifting. Yes, I had a bad launch.
Full .5 built into reaction.

more mph makes up for the slower launch ...he beat you on the big end

Default Great reaction time but the 60' times are a bit slow (no offense here, just an observation)...

...goal should be 1.8 seconds or less.

Again, great job on the reaction time.

Default only?...

1.5 carlengths is an eternity on a dragstrip but you did great anyway!

Default 1 1/2 car lengths on the drag strip is huge... even more so in an 1/8 mile drag.

With his turbos he gets a lot of MPH but his ET is hurt because of the lag. He would probably bury you in 1/4 mile race. But its a good race to the 1/8 mile if you can get your 60ft down a little (I wouldn't worry about it too much... you don't want to ruin your clutch).

Default Re: Can someone explain this timeslip for me?

The trap speed is relative to top end power. Muscle cars are similar in that regards. The 1/4 times might be ok because of take off, but on the top end (usually vettes and fixed up vipers), they start catching up and get these really high trap speeds. If you guys had gone just a little longer, the supra would have really opened up the gap.
