briefly, they let off the boost that the turbo has built up or keep it from boosting beyond what it is supposed to<p>Silver 2000 A4 1.8Tqmsx

They release boost pressure when the throttle plate snaps shut so the turbos don't stall .
And also prevent hoses from blowing when all that boost has no where to go. Crappy blow off valves may have a part in ruptured tbb's in my opinion.
