Default Cell phone in Armrest-- Want to do it quick and dirty.

I looked at the website at:

https://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec12.shtml

Which goes into a lot of detail on how to install cellphones into the RJ-45 connector in the armrest.

I have a fairly bizzare phone (Sanyo SCP-6000), and I am looking to attach it using the hands-free connection (1/8 inch jack connected to ear bud and microphone).

It _looks_ like I can just tear apart my hands-free set and a spare RJ-45 cable, splce in the four leads for speaker+/- and mic+/- and be done...

But then there are a lot of diretions for messing around in the trunk as well.

So, to sum up-- has anyone connected their cell phone's 1/8in hands-free jack to their S4's RJ-45 jack sucessfully? Any hints, comments, etc that anyone can give before I blow up my cell phone or my S4?

(bonus question-- is there an easy way to connect the "stero mute" line? I assume I can jsut turn off my stereo when I want to use the cell..)

Default Re: Not sure...is there enough power in the earphone to power the Audi's speaker...?

I am trying to tie in a Sanyo SCP-4500 with their new handsfree kit...ties into a cig lighter and even recharges the phone (built in speaker).

I did think of doing what you are thinking, and it should be straight forward to experiment. Also, if your not running power to your phone, I don't think you can blow your car or phone up...should be fairly safe.

Keep us posted.

Default <grinning> Yeah, I've done it.

Don't do what you're proposing. I won't work. You need an audio amplifier chip to drive the speaker, a small circuit to power the built in microphone and a transistor switch to do auto-muting (that may or may not work). Kind of difficult to explain, but if you'd like to buy me a Sanyo 6000 I'd be happy to work on it. ;-)

Default Doh.

Unfortunately, it's an expensive cell phone. Can I send you a cheap one instead?

Seriously, it's a little frustrating to have two connections that looks like they OUGHT to go together just sitting there.

I also find it suprising that nobody has made a generic cell phone adaptor
