Default centery console display problem, dealer said short in instrument cluster.

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/4103/center_console_1.jpg"></center><p>
The whole saga started when my break wear sensor went off. I went to the dealer, they replaced my pads, sensor was still on. They looked at it and said my stoptech big brake kit had a bad install and I had a short in the instrument cluster. Everything was fine, except the wear sensor would always be on. Now all of a sudden the center portion of the three part display is blank. That's normally where you'd see radio/cd info, temperature etc. The display isn't dead since the silly "apply foot brake while stationary appears". There's no fault codes reported in the vag com either. Any ideas out there?
