Did you get gas? The gas cap not being put on tightly will cause this
If the light is not flashing your car is OK to drive

Check Engine Light at 400 miles?
I just finished my first week with a 01, S4. Santorin blue, cold weather, premium package... Finished the license plate mod, and the blacked out grill this afternoon.
I took a ride out to the beach on the south shore of Long Island and at 400 miles on the clock the check engine light came on.
The car runs fine..I wasn't driving hard.
System checks OK.
How can I determine why the light came on?
Anyway, after one week all I can say is "I am not worthy...."

thanks for the response Reg...
I got gas two days ago and knowing about the cap, made sure it clicked a few times...
I used the onboard system check and it shows OK..
Any other ideas?

No sounds like you need to schedule an appointment.
If the error gets fixed the light goes out in a few days. The codes should still be there though I think.

could be secondary air,low flow.could also be long term fuel trim, banks 1/2 lean.most common faults with 2.7 cars is mixture faults due to air leaks, puked air flow meters[cars with more miles than yours].your car is relatively brand new so i would tend to think either secondary air or one of the by-pass valves are bad if you have mixture faults[note;if it's a bypass valve you should be down on power at the top]

I checked the gas cap...got gas over a quarter tank ago and was conscious of the extra twist.
Can you elaborate on the "secondary air" issue?
BTW, I went up to the dealer today. When I left this morning the light was still on. The car sat in the lot for about 30 minutes while I waited to talk to someone and when I left the light did not come on...
Who knows...
Definately NOT in limp mode or any noticable loss of power...
Thanks for the response

if the light went out,the car performed what ever test it failed and passed it,turning out the light.on the secondary air issue,if your car is a stick, you don't use secondary air[only on automatic 2.7 s4/a6]and what set your light was something else.for the check engine light to come on,the car has to fail something for 2 drive cycles, except misfires, this sets the blinking light than it's on steady.if your car is a manual, you probably set a evap/tank fault.
