Default Considering used S4 purchase

First of all, let me say that I'm new to this forum, and you guys seem very knowledgable, so I'm glad to be able to be here. Here is my question:

I'm considering buying a used s4. I've got roughly 25,000 to spend, and I've narrowed it down to two basic options... a 2000 s4 with roughly 40,000 miles, and a 2001.5 s4 with 60,000 miles. The 2000 has a Y-pipe and new 710N diverter valves, where as the 2001.5 obviously has the better stock hoses. THe 2001 has covered roughly a third more ground, though... also, the 2000 has a short shifter and the 2001.4 has a tuned suspension (can't recall the name of the product, but it involved new springs and such). any opinions?

I thought about it, but it adds like 4-5 grand to the price.

Default What I would do. Some others may agree.

Purchase a 2000 6sp S4 for 20k. under 50k miles. VERY doable (completely stock)
Get K04s for reliability. good deal= 3g installed
Get suspension. Stasis Tracksports 2g
Then do BPVs, TBB, F Hose = $100 bucks
If you have extra money you can do fueling and chip for under 1.5g

Total Stage 3- car with great suspension= $24900-$26000 and will not blow turbos.

I got this car thinking eh I will buy one fairly cheap, 26.5k i paid. Then i would chip it, dps, exhaust, bpv, f hose, tbb. It should run fine. I had warranty so what the hell if the turbos blow i will just take the chip out. That worked once. Turbos went kaboom. Now i just blew my second set, warranty wont help me. Im going k04s and will be safe. not bad and i can hook you up if you want me to put together parts for you. I can get a full stage 3 kit, with fueling for under $3200 bucks.

Default and then---

you would have a less reliable car that you would beat on and break, be unhappy with and lower the value of all S4s. and even when its working well---there WILL ALWAYS BE SOMEONE FASTER THAN YOU....unless of course its just a hobby and you are made of money and dont care about resale and such....

Wow, brilliant posting, guys... yes it does... the certified cars are always more expensive, often by up to five grand... sometimes as low as a two grand premium, but I can't get into one for less then 27,000, where as I'm looking at a 2000 for 22,000... huge difference...

Default You said it adds $4-5K to the price.

We're telling you it doesn't. It costs the dealer approx. $1200 to certify a car. Any other premiums they are charging you is gravy for them. Lucky for them you'll happily accept the $5K premium.
