Coolant question
I converted my car over to Water/Purple Ice is there going to be any harmful side effects?? The bottle says it lubes and protects against corrosion.
Reduces Coolant Tension
Reduces Coolant Temperatures
Protects Aluminum Cooling Systems
Lubricates Water Pump Seals
Provides Corrosion Resistance -- Passes ASTM Corrosion Tests
Works in both Gasoline and Diesel Engines

Do a search for purple ice and the username mpwolf (used to be 2k2S4). He talked to the technical
people at Royal Purple and they gave it the specific OK for use with Audi's G12 formula coolant, IIRC. I remember posting about this issue in the past with him. He is very knowledgeable about the S4, even though he sold his. I've used Redline water wetter in my VW Passat with G12 for over 57k miles with no problems and in the S4 for about 27k miles with no problems. In fact, the redline stuff uses the exact same color dye as the G12 coolant itself, so you can't even detect (visually) its there.

How did you flush the old stuff out?
I was always under the impression, the reason you couldn't switch was that our 'pink' stuff, and other 'green' coolant was not compatable.
I'm not 100% on this though, so don't bash.

It was said that G12 acts as a lubricant for the water pump bearings...
I am running g12 in my car even though i dont need to with my climate. If you have ever spilled it all over yourself, it does have a greasy feel to it. FWIW.

Re: do you think you could see the water wetter in normal green coolant? how much are ..
Sure you can use royal purple it says its made of organic and inorganic materials so its compatiable both ways. I had to use 2 bottles of royal purple to get the mixture right.

I only put in part of a bottle (I think the bottle is 12 oz.). I have never put it in with green
coolant, so I don't know. Why anyone would still use the old style sodium silicate based coolant is beyond me. You save like $2 a gallon, but it destroys your water pump that costs hundreds to replace (I'm factoring in labor here). Orange or pink are all I've used since like '95 or so. Sort of like synthetic oil versus dino stuff.
