Default Dead battery. Any instructions for replacing it?

Friend's '01 S4 Avant's battery is DOA. I'm about to go to Autozone to pick up a replacement, then help with install.

I STFA and found useful info (such as approbation for Autozone battery), but didn't find a tech article for the technically challenged. Can anyone point me to one if I missed it? It looks like it's more involved than just unbolting a bracket and lifting the battery out of the car.

TIA.

Default Sounds like you've got it. If you're not a strong or tall fellow, there have been posts about how

difficult the battery is to get out

Default there is a trick .. the gr48 from autozone will be a shorter battery so the bracket

on the pass side front corner holding the battery will not work the way it is anymore.
i mangeled mine and placed it in one of the bolt holes that will be revieled if you push the bat. all the way toward the driver side.. it's all about being creative
1) remove the plastic cover with the rubber seals( weather stripping), remove 1 screw holding the polen filter cover (pass side -7 or 8 mm)
2) turn the plastic phillips screws (levers) holding the plastic piece under the wiper.
3)unbolt the 10mm screws holding the + and - wires on the terminals and the 13mm bracket holding the bat down (pass side corner)
4)lift that cover so you can have room to take the bat out.. take the bat out .. put the new one it, push it to the right as far as it goes (so it catches the edge on dr side) ..bent, break the little bracket so it will fit in the new spot (need 2 pliers) .

Default You can also hook up a trickle charger to the car while you are swapping. It will

keep you from having to reprogram the radio.

Default Newp. don't need one. Just make sure the new battery is charged. Do it quickly and you won't need

the radio codes or reprogram anything, except the date / time on the cluster.

Default There's a tech article that gives some tips such as which terminal to remove first and some pics

also disconnect the drain from the battery side so you can see where it is hangs down to.

https://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec129.shtml</a
