Default Dealer says I need brakes: Fronts - 2mm, Rears - 5mm. Questions...

They say the brake light will turn on at 1mm.

What exactly are they measuring? mm's left till they need to be replaced?

What are the specs, total thickness, for brake replacement? I want to put my micrometer on them myself...

TIA.

Default they're probably measuring total pad left.

if they're that thin i'd replace the fronts. your rears will probably last a little while longer

Default sounds like they are measuing pad material remaining.

its not hard to look and see how much pad is left. its better to replace pads before you start grinding the rotor with the backing plate.

Default they are talking pads...

the brake pad indicator is linked to the pads, not the rotors...

most likely, your rotors are OK.

Default if you plan on installing new pads yourself, do it ASAP!

the pistons are a BITCH to push back in after they've reached max extension.

Default you don't resurface, you turn them, or smooth them out.

you can turn them , but they will be thinner and warp easier...

just replace them if they need to be turned, IMO.

Default 2mm is pretty damned thin... that's why I'll be measuring myself! :)

if they're that thin, then yes, they'll be replaced much sooner than later.

Default

only the rears are a PITA, without the tool.
