Dealer says tranny needs to be replaced and not rebuilt. Where can I get a 6 speed transmission....

neil at 82 autowerks might have one available soon
he is almost done swapping mine out for another refurb and anything broken (probably a synchro or fork) will be replaced and it will be ready to go, same thing as the other rebuilds without the waitlist or perhaps shipping expenses if you are east coast.

No, Actually the car never even was lifted in the air......
it doesn't go into any gear. So they are telling me I am in need of a new or good used tranny.
I think I tracked one down with 39k on it for 1500 but I am not sure how much shipping will be.

Bah... I've rebuilt manual transmissions that wouldn't go into any gear...
of course, they weren't on Audis. A teardown would be needed in order to determine what needs to be replaced. If many parts need replacement, it may be less expensive to buy a good used trans, though I'm not familiar with parts and labor prices for these cars.
It's also possible the dealer doesn't have the time or expertise available to rebuild it...
