Default Decision Time: Buy an 00 S4 with low mileage or 01 S4 with higher mileage?

Hi All,

I'm in the process of looking for a used (previously enjoyed S4). While I know the differences between the 00 and 01 S4 models, I'm still not sure which one to go for.

In my price range, I can either get a 00 S4 with low miles (60000kms/37500 miles) or an 01 S4 with higher mileage (96000km/60000 miles). The other alternative is to go for a higher mileage 00 S4 and have more money for mods...

What do you suggest? Naturally, I'd be all over an 01 S4 with low miles if it fell within my budget...

Thanks,
RajeshR

Default If you're stretching your budget, don't buy this car.

Buy what you can afford, and only if you want it. Therefore, if you want a low mileage 2001 but can't yet afford it, don't settle for less. Either wait until you have the money or until the prices drop more.

No offense, you can't afford an S4 if those are the cars you're looking at.

Default Thanks - that sounds like a good idea...

I had thought about waiting; gues I'll wait around and see what else comes down the pipe.

Default None taken, but...

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you saying that I should be looking at only 02's? Or are you saying that I should be looking at low mileage post-00's only?

Regards,
RajeshR

Default I'm saying that these are expensive cars, whether you spend the money up front (buying a low mileage

2002 or 2001.5) or later (buying a high mileage car). I just didn't want you to get in over your head. I'm sorry for assuming, but I guess I figured that if those were the cars you were looking at, that it's the limit of your budget. I have to think that buying either of those cars is going to require some cost (perhaps substantial) in the future. Just didn't want you to blow all your loot buying the car and not be able to afford to keep it running.
