Default did some runs tonight. not good.

Timing pull like a MF and throttle cut.

With the car fresh, i could manage 3rd gear and half of 4rth before the car would cut out and fire flames out the back.

took some logs. 15 degrees of CF on cylinder 5

and on the "clean" runs, 12-13 degrees of pull.

Id say the new cams, combined with the higher boost are proving too much for this file that was tuned to the edge with a nice boost taper from 20psi to 15 at redline.

It was a chilly night too. Not like driving around in the heat or anything.

here are the logs:

run 1
-1.5 degrees of timing, 3rd and 4rth gear.

Second run, -6 degrees 3rd gear only. but already heatsoaked i guess despite a couple minutes of cooldown.

The first run didnt catch the 15degrees of timing pull but the second did. Blame my ancient copy of vagcom.

Whats puzzling was that pulling timing out with lemmiwinks seemed to have NO effect on WOT.

Can anyone confirm?

Default pull 6 degrees and check back.

I generally pull 1 degree for every CF over 10 just to get it in the green. Once it drops < 10, add as needed. Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

you are talking about pulling over 12 degrees with lemmiwinks at this point. thats a hell of a lot.

Default I noticed something interesting re: CFs Friday----->

My car in daily driver pump gas trim has CFs of around 2-6 at WOT. I drained the tank until the fuel pump wouldn't pump anything else out and put in some leaded 117 motor octane gas. I took my car out for some quick logging to verify it would be safe to add timing. To my suprise my CFs were identical. I took it out again and did a 3rd-4th gear pull to redline. In 3rd the CFs still hadn't changed, but after pulling in 4th they slowly kept creeping down until redline.

I have to conclude that CFs are "learned" by the ECU a little more than I had once thought. The ECU can probably give CFs instantly, but it taketh away the CFs after a little more thought. Moral: clear the codes after pulling timing or adding octane.

Default absolutely agree.

I've noticed this on almost every occasion. CF's are generally always lower and the second and third pulls indicating to me that they are, in fact, learned.

that could be why the second pull with an additional 5 degrees pulled did no better.

Default You're absolutely right...

I noted this back when I was K03/X and a nearby gas station sold 100oct. The midget gnawed on my ankles on that one like crazy until other people confirmed it.
