Difference between S4 and A4 rear brakes?
First of all let me say that AudiWorld is the best Audi forum, ever!
I lost count of all the problems I have resolved using the "search" function
This is my first post so bare with me...
I looking for ways to upgrade my rear brakes using larger discs, mainly becauce it looks better. The discs and pads are worn out so I need to buy new hardware anyway. I read the tech article about the A8 rear upgrade, but problem is that I have S4 B5, -98, with solid rear brakes. So the vented A8 disc can't fit in the tiny rear calipers. New S4 calipers (for vented discs) available from VAG is about 200€ each so that's not an option. And used S4 calipers are hard to find where I live,,,,, A4 calipers on the other hand...
Q1: Is there any difference between S4 and A4 rear calipers? (for vented discs)
Q2: Is there any other option using larger solid disc with my stock rear calipers?
Regards

A4 rear brake option for euro S4s....
what is the size of your current rear brake? if it is 245mmx10mm solid like the B5 A4s, then you should be able to do a modified rear brake upgrade to 255mm in the rear while retaining you stock calipers. US S4 rear calipers are desinged for 20mm vented rotors.
Based on info/part#s from Quatrrofrog on the B5/A4 forum I did this to my 00 A4 1.8tq.
B6/A4 3.0 caliper brackets,rear 8E0-615-425-A
C5/A6 255mmx12mm solid rotors,rear 4B0-615-601-B
Brackets ran me under $75/ea new, each from dealer w/quattro club discount and rotors about the same. So under US$300 excluding pads for a bit more stopping power, plus I need to repalce pads & rotors so nomimal increase in parts expenses.

Re: Welcome! Are there a lot of Saabs in Sweden? A 98 S4 is certainly a rarity!
Since when are bright yellow 850 T-5Rs, AWD 300 Hp S60 Rs, and laser blue SAAB Viggens slow or boring. Shame on you show some patriotism.

Hehe ok I agree some cars do stand out, the S60R being a good example, it's one of a kind.
I was refering to the majority of SAABs and Volvo, that is 9-5 kombi and V70 kombi.
