Yessir... well sorta kinda. Not acid.
It WAS dipped in an abrassive substance though. The runs you see are just from the sealant they sprayed on afterwards. It'd be like dipping a paint brush in a bucket of paint thinner to clean it. Only issue is, the bare metal can't be exposed or it will rust, that's why the sealant has to be applied. Not sure on weight savings, probably not very much, but I'll let AW know.
