Default Do 18" x 8" Fikse FM-5's fit over the S4 brakes?

I notice that a majority of the people with these wheels have 18" x 8.5" but I would rather have the 8" wide wheel to avoid rubbing. Are there any pictures of the Satin vs. Polished finish?

Default It's not the width, it's the offset...

It doesn't matter whether you got 8.5's or 8's. Because of the curvature of the spokes, what counts is the offset. If you had an 8" wheel, the wheel wouldn't "fill" the well as much. The face of the wheel would sit in the same place as an 8.5" wheel, it's just how deep the rim goes inwards (towards the engine). Check my picture poster for some pics.

Default Offset?

So the offset is the distance from the hub inwards to the rim edge? Is the distance to the outer edge of the rim from the hub the same on all wheels? Is there a cool site to illustrate all this? I am considering new wheels and want to get the max wheel diameter and tread width.

Default So it's possible to get the 8" wide wheel to fit with the right offset?

I guess I just have to figure out what that offset will be. Thanks for your help. By the way, are your wheels satin finish or polished?

Default I'll save you all the research time....

Max wheel size is a 18 x 8.5, with a max tire size of 255/35/18. Optimal offset is 38mm, but you can get away with 37 or 36mm, too. This still requires rolling the fenders in the front (if lowered), and no mods in the rear. Several folks are running this setup, but I believe I was the guinea pig.

You might be able to go to 18 x 9 wheels, but the offset would change, plus it hasn't been proven (I don't think).
