Do Avs Sports Stink in the Rain?
Why do my AVS sports slide and hydroplane so much in the wet, even with the open tread design?

Mine are very good in the rain...depending on the surface. On a very wet track day at
Seattle Raceway, I had a lot more "push" on two areas of the track. The instructors call those particular turns "polished granite" as the very old asphalt surface is "polished" smooth. Roads that are wet for the first time following a long dry spell are not handled as well as my old SO-2s (still the best "wet" tire I've ever experienced). In fact, the Dunlop SP9000s did very well in the wet, but I've "pushed" the AVSs much harder than the other two. If I "behave" myself and drive "sensibly" in the rain, the AVSs do very well...but where's the fun in that?

NO ... They are excellent in the wet IMO
I had to drive 150 miles (roundtrip) recently in torrential rain -- with runoff so deep in places, I had to exit the freeway to higher ground and so relentless at times I couldn't see my hood with the wipers at full speed -- and my AVS Sports offered outstanding grip. No hydroplaning on the freeway with plenty of standing water and at speeds perhaps a bit fast for conditions. Excelent adhesion in corners. I was pleasantly surprised. : )

Good point...hydroplaning is nature's way of telling you that you are driving too fast
for the conditions. I "experimented" with some large areas of standing water on the track untill my car did it...scary feeling, but my instructor encouraged the experimentation...said to be aware of direction wheels are pointing when you get out of the "lake" and back in contact with the road.

This is actually a good lesson, I found a big empty parking lot with a ton of standing watter (m)
I played for hours. I really did learn alot about being smooth and what the car will do in the rain. If you have chance I suggest doing it.

I don't have "first-hand" experience with the SO-3s (yet...they may go on our TTQC), but
I could not find ANY fault with the SO-2s on my A4Q or my son's urS4. They were so good it was almost scary, and I hear the SO-3s may even be better. The technical articles I have read about the SO-3 say Bridgestone claims improvements over the SO-2 in all areas.
