do you think 26mm whell spacers will be safe on stock wheels and stock suspension?

more spacer means more wheel bearing wear?
Or do you not recommend it b/c it would stick out too far? I've read a few places that people are fearful of spacers creating excessing wear on bearings and thought I'd clear that up since I may do something similar in the future.
