You have to lift the hatch with your hand anyway, and the lever is right there, so makes sense just to wiggle your fingers and do it all at once, as opposed to hitting the popper button and then also lifting. I guess the only item to note is that if your doors are locked, you have to unlock them first (before using the exterior lever), where as with the button you don't have to. So then it comes down to hatch button vs door lock button, and it's all the same yet again, except that the door lock button is easier to reach.
I'll take this a step further and say that I never use the trunk popper on the key fob either. Why would I want to hold down the trunk button for like 3 seconds, when instead I could just hit the unlock button once and again lift the tailgate lever.
I like the options, but don't think they're really necessary since the trunk has a door handle like all other doors.
