Downpipes or catback?

In the market for one or the other - I currently have stock exhaust. Which would result in a greater performance increase and if i were to go with just downpipes, how is the stock s4 catback exhaust? All responses appreciated.

I've read here that the most significant obstruction in the exhaust path (m)

is the precats. So the DP's should provide a better gain than replacing the stock muffler.
