E46 M3 at Buttonwillow
I attended the BMWCCA event at Buttonwillow this weekend and a fellow showed up with a brand new laguna seca blue (yes, it is not a great color) E46 M3 with only 400 miles on it. The owner was great and let everyone fondle and ogle it all they wanted.
He didn't take it out on track Saturday but did on Sunday limiting his shifts to 5500rpm due to break in. A friend got a ride and came away lusting after it. This friend's M5 has well north of 350hp and he was very impressed by the M3's lowend and said if it keeps pulling like that to redline it will be a screamer. He was most impressed with the compromise between performance and ride quality.
The interior is typical BMW basic but the steering wheel is great. Nice and thick and relatively small. Personally, and this from a guy that hasn't had a great interior in a car, I don't care that much about that type of thing. It would be the lowest thing on my priority list.
Have to say that if I was going to get one I would wait for a silver or black. That blue is not pretty and will attract CHP like Buttonwillow attracts flies.
There was a lone older Audi, can't recall the model, 100? Hatchback type thing he revved the daylights out of. On the front straight I thought he was going to blow the motor.
The San Diego Chapter put on the event and for those So Cal S4 owners who like track events, this was a great bunch of people. A little more laid back and very sociable.
Damn I love cars.
