I suppose I should say "bandwidth" rather than "speed". Anyway, anyone who knows computer hardware knows that USB *can* transfer much much more data at once than the COM port can.
However, does the hardware difference make any difference in the real world? Could ECUx data logging saturate the bandwidth available on the COM port? It doesn't seem like anybody using ECUx with a HEX-COM cable has had any complaints...but I was curious to see if anyone has examined a difference (or if someone had the ability to test a difference) between COM and USB.

I guess what I'm getting at is...should I risk the possible Lemmi issues using a COM emulator...
Or just buy a HEX-COM cable, and use it for VAG/Lemmi/ECUx?
I recently bought a cheap used laptop ($350), and I made sure it had a COM port so I could use that cable type if I wanted. I guess I'm just looking for the cheapest, but also most hassle-free route to VAG/Lemmi/ECUx nirvana.

Have you tried messing with the "Bits per second" COM port settings on your machine?
If that increases the amount of samples/second you get, then that might point to USB being able to do even more...
