Default ECUx gurus: is there any real (ie observed) speed difference between ECUx logging using COM vs USB?

I suppose I should say "bandwidth" rather than "speed". Anyway, anyone who knows computer hardware knows that USB *can* transfer much much more data at once than the COM port can.

However, does the hardware difference make any difference in the real world? Could ECUx data logging saturate the bandwidth available on the COM port? It doesn't seem like anybody using ECUx with a HEX-COM cable has had any complaints...but I was curious to see if anyone has examined a difference (or if someone had the ability to test a difference) between COM and USB.

Default I get ~14 samples/second with my HEX-COM cable.

Should be easy for someone with a USB cable to determine their sampling rate and compare to that.

Default I guess what I'm getting at is...should I risk the possible Lemmi issues using a COM emulator...

Or just buy a HEX-COM cable, and use it for VAG/Lemmi/ECUx?

I recently bought a cheap used laptop ($350), and I made sure it had a COM port so I could use that cable type if I wanted. I guess I'm just looking for the cheapest, but also most hassle-free route to VAG/Lemmi/ECUx nirvana.

Default Have you tried messing with the "Bits per second" COM port settings on your machine?

If that increases the amount of samples/second you get, then that might point to USB being able to do even more...

Haven't tried messing with anything.

Default is 9600. Any chance you could jack it up to max and do some logging?

I'll give it a shot. Honestly though, 14 samples per second is A LOT of data.

What if you're logging 14 variables? Wouldn't that mean you're only getting 1 sample/sec/variable?

No, I'm logging around 40 variables. All of them report data at 14 samples/second.

Oh, okay. I wasn't sure how it worked. That's a buttload of data. HEX-COM it is...
