Elcheng/anyone: Can someone ranks the exhausts in overall "loudness"..?
I know that almost any of the after-market exhausts will help improve power and remove the sandblaster effect.
I am going to get an aftermarket exhaust 'cause I gotta' know where redline is during combat situations. But with my driving habits - I can't afford one that's too loud. I just want to get some cool burble that I can hear while driving hard - but not so loud that I alert the Polizei as to my impending approach.
I also know that some are "drop-ins" - and some take a bit of "fitment." I also know that eveybody's experiences on installation have varied wildly - so I'm taking that with a grain of salt. Okay.. a block of salt.
What would be major helpful, is if we could get an overall ranking of "loudness." Now, I realize that how loud, and how nice, an exhaust sound is a MAJOR SUBJECTIVE OPINION! But, even a subjective rating is useful/interesting. But it also implies that someone has heard most or all of the exhausts at one time or another. Oh well, let's give it a shot:
Stock is quietest. In next to most "loudest/coolest" exhausts order are (of Borla, VM1, VM2, MTM, APR, Scorpian, etc.) are:

mooches? uhhhh... (very long)
MAJOR SUBJECTIVE OPINION:
MY Vm1 is better than everybody elses. =) But seriously...
I like the design of the UUC. It really makes sense to me. I'm trying to convince myself to get the MTM one to mate it with some downpipes for db's sake but......the 2 pipes are just really really neat. The sound of it is very burble filled when shifting....sounds pretty good at high rpm's. (i had the experience of trying to catch my car in a friend's S4...) I wish the tone was a touch deeper....but still am happy at the way it sounds when i blow the doors off of the competition.
In all reality, it's NOT THAT LOUD. In the beginning, when the steel is fresh it'll resonate pretty bad....in 2 weeks it'll mellow out. After I put 5000 miles on the pipes.....they are perfect =P
I've heard reports that the APR one is louder than UUC...but i don't know for a fact. I'm sure you have heard Leslie's APR one...she loves the thing so it's gotta be at least somewhat cool =P
In my heart of hearts i want the MTM exhaust. There is a touch of back pressure in the unit, but a tiny bit is needed for proper exhaust flow and to keep things linear. I like the fact that the MTM one is shiny and the fact that they've got a new german builder for these pipes. The 1st gen ones, while still good, had crimped mufflers.....
All in all, i'm happy with the UUC. mid range power is a BEAST, esp with my gen2 chip and the sound is sexy. Hope this helps!<p>-Cheng
