Default Engine pull and turbo swap question about axles

Do I just unbolt the axles from the transmission, or do I also have to undo the bolt in the end of the axle?

I'm wondering if I just need to unbolt the axles from the transmission or if the axles also need to be removed completely.

Thanks.

PS: Stay tuned for my up coming questions when I get stuck.

Default i just completed my turbo swap. i pulled the axles = much easier.

break the axle bolts free while the car is on the ground - use a breaker bar + cheater pipe.

with the car up and wheels off, undo the pinch bolt and pop out the upper CAs from the spindle assembly. also pop out the TREs. then the spindle will have room to move.

unbolt the 6 axle flange bolts on the tranny side and remove the axle bolt and the axle maneuvers out easily.

you'll have a problem with the axles rotating when trying to unbolt (and rebolt on reinstall) the axle flange bolts. i was on my own for this thing so i used a socket extension in a wheel lug hole then rotated the axle until it got to a point where the extension would prohibit it from turning further - then i would unbolt the lower 2 axle flange bolts. then remove the socket extension and position 2 holes over then rotate the axle to access the next two bolts and so on.

good luck with the pull. it wasn't all that bad... just a ton of steps. make sure you lable all bolts and parts as they come off. i used sandwich baggies and a sharpie.

Default Do you really need to remove the pinch bolts to get the axles out?

I'm afraid of getting into a mess with my pinch bolts and would like to avoid them if possible.

Default It did help alot, when I did it. I suppose you might not *have* to, but it literally took 10mins to

get the axle out after I pulled the pinch bolt.

Default i have aluminum spindles so it takes 60 seconds. if i had steel i would take the opportunity

to take it out, clean it up and slather it w/ anti-sieze for the reinstall.

Default hell no.

Simply raise the engine a few inches, jack up the hub, and the axle drops down far enough that it slides out underneath the transmission.
