Estimated Cost to Replace Turbos??
Sup Everyone,
I am considering buying an S4. There is an S4 local to me, '00 model with 120k miles. I'm going to try to find out when the timing belt was last replaced, as he mentioned it had the 120k service done (not sure if that includes the "every 60k" timing belt...prob not). I suspect with this kind of mileage, if the turbos havent been replaced, there's a big chance I"ll end up having to deal with this at some point.
I have the money to do a $1000 repair every now and then, but I'm wondering how much it is goign to cost me if one or both turbos fail. I know you have to pull the motor, and unlike if this was a 4-cylinder nissan or honda, I'm not confident to do that myself.
Given I find a shop that will charge less than the dealership, what is your estimate on the cost for:
1. Parts
2. Labor
Also, if I were to upgrade to K04s at this time, what would be the increase in price for this. Ignore things like turbo-back exhaust, new side mount ICs, and factor in unique things like new exh. manifolds, etc.
THANKS

some ppl want the the piece of mind of warrantied work/parts.
so they dont have to pay for labour twice if failure occurs again, or something goes wrong from install. either way, its the person whos paying the bills choice.

Re: some ppl want the the piece of mind of warrantied work/parts.
Are there people with 150k miles running around on original factory turbos?
If i buy an S4 with 120k should I expect the turbos to **** oil at some point soon? Not sure how to even inspect the turbos for shaft play before buying the car if you have to pull the motor to access them.
Is it the best move to get a warranty then? They're like 3 or 4k which would be less than the cost of a turbo swap. Buy car, replace DVs and add a chip, then get a warranty?
Or just NOT get a warranty and upgrade to K04s when the stockers die...
