FATS calc and MarkP template question
I'm using v11.16 of the templates. I'm curious as to what people see under the FATS Auto calculator section, particularly the "Speed (FYI)", "FATS Begin Speed" and "FATS End Speed".
The question is: what percentage of the time does the speed listed in these fields match the 57-91mph range? Is it always perfect within range? What if it's not in the range - is the run invalid? Are some start speeds 57.5? 57.7? 56.6? Are end speeds ever less than 91 or more? You get the idea...
TIA,

yes it is rpm range. but it gives you that speed as 'fyi'...as i'm trying to adapt to Tip,
and messing with start/end rpm I'm seeing that the speed does not always match up given a static rpm number, hence my question.

is that his newest template?
If so, there are two different FATS calculations. The first is for RPM and the second is for mph. If you cant find it or d/l it then I will email it to you.

it varies a bit........
those were just some common values I tended to see across a variety of cars.
the only time a run would be invalid is if you have a slipping clutch in which case the RPMs and Speed would not align as they normally should.
For folks with a Tip (or different car) and trying to find MPH values to use to compare to FATS times, I would suggest using MPH values acquired from a similarly powered/accelerating car. That is, a Stg3 Tip should use MPH values from a Stg3 6spd, stg1 w/stg1, etc. There could be some differences in the value returned based on the sampling rate, and cars accelerating at different speeds would have more/less data points, thus using values from a similar dataset would be good, IMO.
Whatever you use, just stick with something so you can consistently compare your results to yourself.

i believe so, and yes, i know about the two different ones...but
what i'm asking is: when using the rpm based one (which has the 'speed fyi' column also) do people always see the perfect match in speed? i.e. does the 'speed fyi' always show between 57-91mph or is it sometimes higher/lower?
On the rpm based one, I'm playing with start/end rpm trying to figure out the best values for my Tip. I can tweak rpm to make the speed column fall into the right range. When I do this for one run, I'll see the 'below rpm' be 56.8 and 'above rpm' be 57.2 (for example) and it will give a start speed of 57. The issue is, on a similar run, the 'below' and 'above' may be 57.1 and 57.5 - i.e. BOTH are above the desired start speed of 57. So - - - have other people seen this with the static rpm range used for 6spd or not? If so, is it a common occurance and is the result still valid?
Thanks much,

thanks Mark. follow up question:
I'm not quite following when you say 'stg3 tip should use mph from stg3 6spd'. How do you mean exactly? Are you saying I should use the 57-91mph and the speed based FATS calculator or am I reading that wrong?
Thanks again,
