Default Feelin' guilty...(long)

i guess this place would be the best place to let it out...

i'm moving to the dark side. last week, i placed an order for my '02 e46 m3. build date is oct. and i should be receiving it in nov. so i've basically got two more months of s4 ownership.

somehow, i'm not quite as excited as the wait i had with my s4. maybe it's b/c i've been such an audiphile that the s4 meant that much more to me. or maybe b/c it was the nogaro blue paint ;-)

i cant say for sure but i know that it's time for me to move on. yes, i'll be abandoning quattro. but in return, i'll get a pretty nice car that'll open up a can of whoopass from time to time. dont tell me about the wet vs. dry. i know where the s4 stands supreme. but i also know the m3's abilities.

after buying an s2000, i realized that one can get a stock car, throw some R compound tires on and get one helluva car. i'm still learning how to drive the s2000 to its max. and i'm sure the m3 will require the same amount of attention. it's just that i've grown tired of modding. making the car handle better, steer better, go faster and take away everything the the engineers designed the car to be. one could spend an easy $10K+ making the s4 better. unless it's gonna be a dedicated track car, you'll end up making compromises.

then, on the other hand, many people just mod for fun. that's ok. and the s4 is great for that. m3 spoiler or not ;-)

i'm no one to say what is right and wrong. i'm just giving my opinion in what i want out of a car. maybe the next s4 will be one that requires nothing but a set of track tires. maybe it'll drive the same as the current one. i hope audi will really make something out of the next version. give the enthusiasts an enthusiasts car. dont let people have so many avenues in modding. make the car unbelievable out of the box. that'll create less issues with warranty and for those people wanting to push the envelope, let them. but let them also be aware that the car (engine, primarily) is factory tuned and nearly at its max. any more and they're pushing it.

i'm tired of hearing about warranty issues. arent you? so audi, do us all a favor. including this guy who left b/c of that. get with it. make the s4 a contender. a true enthusiasts car. you want brand loyalty? it's gotta start with the car first. take a close look at the e30 m3. to this day, they still get the highest praise! the M marque is huge. how big do you want the S marque to be? how big do you want audi to be? start thinking. be bold. do something like honda did with the s2000. the TT era is over. the PT Cruiser gets just as much attention as a TT. take a look around and many manufacturers are coming back out with some big guns. and you think the TT 'S' is the answer?

my bmw owner-to-be guilt trip is over. let's see if audi can come back with a near 50/50 weight distributed quattro rocket. and get some more torque bias to the rear ala 996 C4! it's still awd! and trust me, the average audi owner doesnt know the torque split on their cars anyway! they just know quattro is equated to awd. some TT owners still think they drive around with the same quattro system as the other audis!

make the next s4 worth it and make me feel guilty leaving bmw. until then, i'm gonna be in my M.

Default I think the S4 and S2000 is a perfect combo.

You have a cruiser and a racer.

You may find that the E46 M3 is very high strung like an S2K. You might be happier with something different - like a heavy but high-performance awd 4 door sedan!

That's not to diss the M3. If I had to pick only one car that would be an excellent choice.

Default If I lived in a climate that was free from snow...

...I'd have a hard time deciding between the S4 and E46 M3. But, since I live in CO and love to ski, the S4 is the car for me (...for now).

Of course, I also have an E36 M3 for those sunny days. 8^)

Default Isn't that ironic? Great pic BTW.

With the exhaust tips drawn up and the chassis sitting right on the big wheels it is really hunkered down, ready for a fight. Strong!
