Default finally fixed my ABS lights, good info for you 01.5 and 02 peeps ESP

I bought my 01.5 with tha ABS and traction control lights ON and it was throwing code:

01435 - Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) 27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

the symptoms were when you hit ~20mph the lights come on, they are off when you start the car. no beeps like the common ABS module failure.

searching the archives and the web, people said it was the MAF that can cause this. My luck the MAF wasnt the culprit.

The 01.5 and the 02 differ from the 00-01 s5 for the ABS components.

There are 3 main compnents for the 01.5-02, the ESP hydraulic unit (number 1 in the picture), ESP hydraulic pump -V156-(number 5) , and the control module (under the rear seat).

I changed out the ESP hydraulic pump (number 5, the process was really straight forward. Audi part 8E0-614-175-E

I was told by many that you cannot buy this part seperate, but all the components for the 01.5-02 are seperate.

-took the wheel off
-removed the wheel liner
-there are 3 brake lines and one plug going to the ABS pump, you have to remove all of them
-the pump simply comes out with one 10mm nut on the bottom of it and just angle it out.
-lots of fluid comes out so be prepared

-re-install in the reverse order
-bleed the brake system
-bleed the ABS pump with a vag-com
-* Select brake electronics (03)
* Login to ABS (11)
* Enter 40168
* Enter 04 for Basic Settings
* Enter 002 and select "go"

-The pump will run for 10 seconds. This must be done while the drivers side front brake bleed screw is open. I had to run the pump 3 or 4 times before all of the air bubbles where out.

How much fluid did you go through when you bled the ABS pump?

Default pump itself i filled up just about half a water bottle with fluid till all the bubbles were out

i used a full quart to flush out the old fluid and bleed the entire system.

i was suprised how much fluid the ABS pumps out each time its activated

Default Did you have a Motiv power bleeder hooked up?

If not, how'd you keep the master cylinder from running empty?

Default Only when I bleed the brakes, It wont drain the mc with the bag you just

have to watch the fluid level while its pumping and add fluid when needed before the resivor runs low

vag the abs module, your steering angle sensor might need to be calibrated

Default I have a 2001.5 Also. My problem is similar only..

my abs, brake and esp light come when i start the car up and it beeps 3 times. This causes the wheels to lock up and the car becomes undrivable. Would this be due to the pump failing, or is the control unit causing it to do this? im going to vag the car next week and post codes. Also, the first time i did my brakes i (come to find out) did not bleed the brakes properly. im guessing the air in the system helped to cause this failure. Any ideas on how much a new abs pump is going to cost me and where i can find one that isn't the dealer (absolute last choice)?
