Default Followup on my "warped" Stoptech brakes

The short update is that they most likely aren't warped. It's most likely the result of using the street pads that came with the brakes (Axxis Ultimate's) on the track. They probably exceeded their maximum temperature rating and started leaving deposits unevenly on the rotor.

I also want to commend Stoptech for their excellent customer service. I had a chance to talk to them for 45 minutes last night. Through a little bit of rambling, I learned A LOT.

Unfortunately, there may be a chance that I have irreversibly damaged my rotors. There are a couple of things I'll be trying and testing to see if that's the case.

Anyway, the moral of the story is don't use street pads on the track

Happy sanding. It did work in my case - be optimistic.

Default My Hawk HP+'s did that on my AP 4-pots last month...

...it took a couple of weeks to go back to normal. I only ran my HP+'s because the run groups were only 10 minutes long, and because I hate them on the street due to excessive squeal; otherwise I would have run Hawk Blues at the track.

Default Get the rotors resurfaced. It works really good ...

and you can get it done at most Pep Boys or Kragen. They only charge about $20 to $30. Would save you some money. Just make sure next time you go to the track that you use track pads :-)

Don't sand the rotors. You don't want Aluminum Oxide impregnating the cast iron.

Default So that was YOU that was taking up all their time when I was trying to call Matt! :-P

I have similar issues, although I was calling about wheel/caliper spacing problems.

What was the final recommendation for how to resurface the rotors Johannes?

Default You use Garnet sandpaper - not aluminum oxide. These are StopTech's instructions.

You are absolutely correct about the Aluminum Oxide being a hazard and it will cause permanent damage.

Yes, that's the ticket. Most don't know though.
