Default Found cause of cracked motor mounts, _missing bolt_.

It'd had been a while since I had checked my cracked motor mounts out, so I thought I'd take a look and see how they were holding up. In the process I found the cause.

I had the car on ramps, and put a jack under the trans to see if the front mounts had seperated completely, imagine my shock when I saw the bracket on the left moving away from the trans case.

The bolt on the top left of this picture is MISSING.

You can see in these two pictures it is quite a substantial bracket.

With a dangerously absent bolt.

When this bolt is missing, a large portion of the drive torque is forced onto the two front engine mounts.

With nicely destructive results.

For months I thought the car had a bit too much driveline slop, well, it did.

The worst part is I thought I had done something to crack them and I wondered why no one else had the problem, now it seems someone forgot a bolt when they put my transmission back in. That scares me.

I haven't talked to my service advisor yet, she knows the fronts are cracked, but she doesn't know why. I'm not sure I've settled down enough from Friday when I found the problem...

Default No, no, remember what your qualified Audi dealer said:

"They all do that".

Huar huar, they don't give a sh8t.
Good finding man, with Audi, you better know your car more than the dealer ever would....

Boy, I wonder which bolts they missed in mine.

Default Holy cow! That's outrageous!

Reminds me of the time I had an allignment done on my Eclipse many years ago. A few weeks later I happen to take the wheels of (paint the calipers) and notice that the nuts securing the rods have not been tightned. WTF!

Don't trust your dealer, review all their work, do research in advance, tell them what to fix and how. Bloody freakin' sad.

Good luck dude,

Sander
