Default Front subframe question. Bentley says use new bolts and torque to "+90 to 110 nM". Those that

have messed with this: Bentley means 110 nM plus 90 degrees, right? Also, as usual, Bentley says to use new bolts, but I don't wanna.

I'm sliding the subframe over to balance the camber and I really don't want to take those bolts out unless I have to.

I can see replacing the self locking nuts on the suspension, etc.

Those are stretch bolts and should not be reused.

They are torque to yield bolts. Do not reuse them!

Ok. 2 votes for new bolts works for me. Funny thing is 2 different dealers re-used them.

Default Well, just because they ignore the BIG BOLD warnings to not reuse them...

doesn't make them right.

Now that I know that they're torque to yield, I am surprised they don't do the right thing.

Default 90 lb-ft + 90 degrees stretches the bolts.

If you do that with used bolts you'll strip the frame threads.

I've stripped cradle threads... not a road you want to go down I assure you. (not by reusing but still a big big pain)

I'll bet there are tons of cars on the road with reused bolts. I'm sure they're all timebombs

Default All this means is lots of potential trial lawyer billable hours...

Would be a pretty easy case if you had your subframe worked on, the repair order does not list the new bolts and you have a catastrophic failure that results in an accident. But Audi dealers would never risk damage to your car (or you) in order to save a few bucks now, would they???

The incompetence of Audi dealer service continues to astound : ))
