Default Ft. rotors are warped, bring to delaer or do it yourself

much like a lot of our cars, my front rotors are now warped and need replacement. it would be simple to bring it to the dealership and have them replace them with another set of (i assume) the same crappy rotors. if i do the replacement myself i would want a better rotor than stock but i don't need a high-end setup. brake pads would also get swapped-out.

suggestions?

Default I did it myself

I went with Zimmerman rotors and Mintex Red Box pads. I've been very happy with the setup.

I figured that the dealer would give me a hard time because of the pads, suspension, and agressive alignment I have on the car. But, the stock rotors aren't that bad, and they are free from the dealer.

Not that hard to do (assuming you can get them off) but why not take the free ones from the dealer?

are the 'dealership' rotors of the same poor quality as the stock rotors? and it sounds like therse are warranty items.. is this true?

Default Yes, they are the same as what came with the car, but...

Why do you think they are so bad?

from what i have been reading in the archives the stock rotors appear under-engineered and as a result warp frequently with little milage between replacements. for this reason i an suspect of the stock rotors.

Default Good rotors dissapate heat better (i.e. don't warp) good pads stop better. Free rotors with free

labor will always win.

it is an 'assured' car so your suggestion of keep burning through the stock ones is well taken. thanks

Granted non-stock rotors are better, but why not go for the freebies for now?
