General Chipping Question
Have never even thought about it for fear of voiding factory warranty. Normally just bought faster stock car. I just was at APRs site, and they say that you can buy a new chip in a new ECU. That way, you could swap back the factory ECU when the car is serviced. They said that the changes are not detectable by the factory technician's diagnostic tools. Is this for real? Also, how difficult is it to swap ECUs? Where is it located (I assume under the dash, or near the windshield under the hood, and how much time does it take to change?
Don't mean to open up a huge debate, but any help would be appreciated.

Re: General Chipping Question
The only code that the dealer will see is a loss of power (ie. disconnected battery cable) The ECU is located under the black plastic cover that is at the back of the engine bay. It is on the drivers side. You can find out exactly what it takes to do this on APR's site. It takes about 10-20 minutes to change. Another useful site is DonP's at www.audizone.com
Chris Tamburo

Tech can detect chip with "***-dyno"!
There is no question an S4's been chipped, if you drive it!
ECU is swappable, but you will eventually wear out the under-hood trim you have to remove to reach it.
APR's new switchable ECU might be the answer, if it can be switched between stock and "chipped" without much effort.
But I remind you, trying to hide the chip in order to have repairs done that could have been caused by the chip, could be viewed as pre-meditated criminal fraud.
Jim De Arras
