Default Getting Abt Chip, why do I need to have "VAG" done on it?

I have an M box 6-speed (2001.5) and I spoke with AMS and they said that after I get the chip back from them, I need to have someone with a VAG-tool to do something to it.....dealing with adaptation. I know with the APR chip you don't have to do this, you just leave it with the Key turned to the ignition position for 5 minutes. What will the Vag-tool actually do? An Adaptation or something else? I hear people saying things like "Throttle Body Alignment" - is that what it is? I've posted this same kind of post on the Vag Forum and that's like a dead forum; no one ever goes there, haha. So if anyone knows, can you please enlighten me! I just want to know what is actually being done and why I need to have it done.....

OH yeah! I'm in sacramento...i saw a link with VAG tool locator and that seems quite out of date; anyone in sacramento with this tool that can help????

2001.5 Silver S4
Stock as it gets.

Default Leaving the throttle in the on position, not started accomplishes the same thing.

Vag-tool will allow you to reset the low voltage dtc when the ECUs are swapped and perform the adaptation instantly. It shouldn't take 5 mins, BTW, but that is a safe number.

Default It's not an alignment - it's an adaptation. The key in the on position will allow the apatation to

occur but to clear the DTCs you need a VAG. Was my post not clear??

It's important enough to do it. I would definitely clear the DTCs.

Default a dealer will suspect that you have a chip if you have the low voltage DTC which you will have every

time you switch chips. Doesn't matter if you switch from stock to Abt or Abt to stock or apr to abt or giac to mtm, etc...any time you switch chips, you will get a low voltage dtc.

If the chip is your first mod, to good ones to follow it would be a boost gauge and a vag tool. They come in very handy

Good night and good luck.
