Getting ready to do the Alum. trim swap. Any pointers for those who've done it? Birds Eye Avil.

It's a relatively brainless job. You'll need some Band-Aids upon completion. (more)...
All the metal rings that hold the trim on from the backside will get kinda' tweaked while being "pried" off. If you take 15 minutes to straighten 'em all out before installing the new stuff, you'll be thankful. Properly straightened rings go on further & hold everything tighter. You'll see.
Also - pulling the radio can be a bitch... even w/ the proper tools. Sometimes, they just don't want to budge. You might have to go in from the back sides of the console to convince the clips to let go.
Other than that, it's just a typical knuckle-duster job. While you're at it, you should do the 1-touch rear window mod... since the rear door panels are off.
Good luck.

getting the Heat/AC control off was worse than the radio for me.....
there are a couple metal spring clips on the under side of that piece that you have to be able to free up without being able to see them. Need to aim about 1-1.5" in from each outside edge, and about 1" back from the bottom front edge with small screwdriver blade to press in the clips enough to pop it.
For me, that and the radio were the only frustrating steps. Crazy thing is I just did it on a sedan 3 onths ago; now I bought an avant and am going to do it all over again!

take your time.
make sure you tighten down the clips all the way, you dont want to have to take it all apart again just to tighten them. get a telescoping magnet too. oh, and one of those really mini pry bars from sears helps too.
