Getting ready to rip this motor out of my car... couple setbacks though... (questions inside)
Most notably, we just checked and my Dad's engine hoist doesn't work. Its a 2 ton crane, but can't even lift me. Yeah well, guess I'll just go and buy one and then take it back after he rebuilds his.
We have the front of the car off (e.g., bumper, radiator, bi-pipe, etc), driveshaft is disconnected, front axles are disconnected, and all the wires and ECU harnesses are disconnected from the firewall.
There are a few things I haven't been able to find in the DIY engine pull write ups though.
First off, I'm assuming the shifter linkage has to be disconnected. Any tips or tricks for doing that?
Secondly, there are quite a few hoses still attached to the engine from other places in the, disconnect them where they connect to the motor, and then reconnect them with new clamps when we are done. Or is there a better, easier way pull the motor without needing to reclamp everything later?

There are 3 or 4 hoses on the passenger side (attach to the airbox) and...
1 on the driver side which runs behind the washer fluid reservoir.
Thanks for the info on the shifter linkage. To be honest, I didn't even look at it before posting (not at home right now), just assumed I'd be disconnecting pieces, lol ;-)

the fuel lines that run over the airbox? One has a flare nut on it iirc....
but the others you're just going to have to buy new hose clamps. At McMaster Carr you can buy the OEM style clamps and the tool to crimp them is only ~$15 if i am remembering right.
I'd have to look to see what the other line you're talking about is. But, if it's the little hard plastic line that runs along he top of the drivers side head and then goes down the front of the valve cover, just keep following it and there will be a point where it comes apart.

If you're pulling the engine disconnect the shifter rod and stabilizer from
inside the car(leave box attached) and just pull the two rods off with the engine/tranny. There is a tab on the boots that you pull on when putting the rods back inside the shifter box - pretty easy.
