Got a call from Audi USA's "Technical Department" regarding flywheel resurfacing.
I called them a couple of days ago to get the depth specification for the clutch mount surface to the friction surface on the flywheel. They said, and I quote:
"We do not recommend machining the surface of the dual mass flywheel. Damage to the flywheel can be deeper than that which appears on the surface."
This, of course, is not going to stop me from getting it machined - but it's interesting to note how Audi feels about it. With how expensive these flywheels are, it amazes me that Audi just flat out replaces them for warranty work. Hmmm...

although this might be true... Audi does replace both turbos even if only one of them goes boom.
also, my dealer said they replace the flywheel on any clutch that's been slipping; cause hotspots caused by a slipping clutch go deeper than machining can get to without going too thin on the flywheel.

Whoa, how do you get in touch with Audi USA's "Technical Department". Is there a number or e-mail?
Is this the place I should go to ask about a problem the dealer can't figure out?

That use to be the case...I am not sure that it is true now
In fact, you have to have major failure to get anything replaced now...not just a high pitched whine or siren sound...like before.
