Got nabbed with radar last night... V1 did NOT go off!
#21
PSA - PA local cops now using an optical system with no wires between sender/receiver/cruiser, so
very stealthy. Our local township cop got me with it and the V1 (of course) said nada. As I went by I saw him sitting back up on an intersecting road backed up about 40' (hiding).
After he pulled me over I asked him how he got a speed reading as he was perpindicular to me and radar works either coming or going but not from the side.
That's when he told me about the system, I said I was an engineer and was really interested in how it works. We got back into the cars, rolled back to the set up and talked about it for about ten minutes.
Two pairs of photoeyes, separate battery packs, one for each side of the road, and an RF communications link to the display unit in the creiser. Display unit also has a switch the officer needs to set saying whether it is reading right to left or left to right.

The PO PO in KOP and Exton have this also.
Saw it set up on Devon Park Drive once. Also on the Exton bypass. Guy I work with buddy is a cop in KOP and he said they only need to set the sensors something like two feet apart---- if you're going a good clip, chances are by the time you see the sensors it's too late

The photoeyes are mounted onto metal frames so that the distance between the "leading" set and
the "trailing" set is fixed. With the distance between them fixed, calibration (in theory) is a one time event.
Distance IIRC is about 2'.
The metal frames were pretty innocuous looking and he had them planted in the bushes, so very stealthy.
