Default Grinding noise when putting into reverse....

Occasionally when I put the car into reverse, I feel and hear a grinding noise. This happens with the clutch fully depressed, and it has even happened once or twice when going into second/third gear. The car is brand new, 700 miles and I'm an experienced driver. I have been easy on the clutch during the break in period; I've never dropped it. It seems to me that something isn't aligned properly with the gear synchros. Anyone have similar experiences or any advice. I'm going to take it in for services but just wanted to see if anyone had the same problem and what the resolution was.

Thanks

Default Re: Syncro problem here too....

Im having a lot of trouble with my whole gear box. I got the car brand new with 168 miles on it, and i wasn't thrilled with that. However, reverse, first and second give me a lot of trouble. They are known to go bad for some odd reason. I know it's not my driving. It's going in for a new Trans.

Reverse has no synchro. Allow time for the gears to stop spinning before shifting.

Actually, I think reverse is synchronized, too...

Default Happens to me when the car is cold. Apparently, the lubricant viscosity has something

to do with it because the problem goes away when the car warms up. I have a similar problem in 1st gear when the car is cold, except I don't get a grinding, I just have extreme difficulty getting the car into gear. After the car is warm it improves.

Also it's nearly impossible to make smooth shifts. The car always "pops" into gear...

Default I've had the same thing for the life of the car...and its got 23k miles on it.

It usually happens when I'm reversing and turning at the same time....and normally when I'm doing it quickly. The tech at the dealer told me it was normal and he told me why, but I honestly forget the explanation. I think, though, you're ok.
