you red needles when lit up.

I always liked the white needles on the S4, so I figured I'd just swap them into my RS4 cluster that has red needles. Long story short, the needles are painted on the underside either white or red. But when you turn on the RS4 cluster, it turns on red LEDs so your S4 white needles change to red.

I ended up just going back to stock on both. So basically I wasted a lot of time last night re-opening and re-closing clusters.

Surface mounted LEDs. They can be swapped but it requires precise soldering.

Default I know I know. I realized that only an idiot would attempt that for a change in color.

Although I did consider this briefly as I fell asleep on Nyquil and Ale.
