Default Has anyone ever replaced a Tiptronic with a Manual trans?

I am interested in a 2000 tiptronic and can pick it up for 13K, but I want to heavily mod it and the tip is a no-go. How hard would it be to replace the tranny? How much money am I looking at? Thanks in advance.

Default Heavily modding Tip is not a no-go - ask BLK01S4. One person has done a swap : "Johnny Bravo"

Unless your friend can come down around $10 then it will likely be cheaper to buy a manual.

I believe Johnny bought the car after the conversion.

Default A few people are Stage III with Tips...

They use the Level 10 Tranny. But if you don't have the car yet and you want to go Stage III, and you also want a manual, then just wait and find a manual, you'll be better off. If you do happen to buy the Tip and go through the extreme difficulty of converting it to a 6 speed, it apparently destroys the value of the car when you do it, though to an enthusiast it may not. Still, it seems less than smart to buy a Tip with the intention of doing the conversion, since it's very expensive and who even knows if you can find someone to do it right and make it work. But hey, if you go that route, let us all know when it's done, some of us would be very interested. I own a Tip and may in fact do the conversion at some later time. According to SkydiveRS4 you can prolly do one for about $10,000.

Default You've convinced me. I'll look for a manual

It's a shame because the car is SOOO cheap and about 45 min from my house. While I could probably get away with a stage 3 setup, I am not an automatic kinda guy. Plus I really intend to go radical with the turbo kit. Thanks all-

Cheers

Are you serious? If you don't still hate me (and you shouldn't), we should talk.
