Default Help! car stuttering at wot, blinking cel

01.5 s4. Sorry about the long post. I have been having a problem with it for quite a while now. The check engine light will not go away. The car idles (at 800 rpm) and drives just fine out WOT and WOT in first gear is good too, except if I go WOT in any of the other gears the car starts jerking and hesitating in boost and sometimes the CEL with start flashing when it happens. I replaced my DV's with 710n's and replaced my TBB with a thick silicone one from JH motorsports. Problem still persisted so I replaced my plugs and gapped them to .028, the car ran good at WOT for about two minutes then the Stuttering/hesitation was right back again, but while replacing the plugs i found that they ALL are COMPLETELY covered in oil so i began wondering if maybe my turbo seals were blown, except the car leaks NO oil at all and turbos still sound good and spool well. I havent picked up a vag tool yet but will in about 2 weeks or so. Any Ideas of whats wrong?

Also, anyone on here with a b5 a4/s4 in the san diego area who'd like to meet up for some brews and car chat? I dont know anyone with an s4 or an audi period so it'd be nice to have someone local with experience who can help me when it comes to modding/diagnosing mine.

What was the first upgrade you installed before this problem started? Oh and I'll be in SD if you want some advice in 2 weeks. -James (two-five-four) 813-2779

Default 2 weeks ago

Im going to check for boost leaks next week when i have time as I previously owned a turbo eclipse and had many boost leaks i had to fix before, this feels very similar. Also my car has 140,xxx+ miles on it and i plan on replacing timing belt, water pump, etc, coil packs, ICM's, all O2 sensors, worn hoses, fuel pump etc. I will vag it and post codes soon.

My first thought is boost leak, but since you replaced TBB already you'll need to do a boost leak test or have a shop do it for you to confirm this. Otherwise you can take out all the hoses and look at them....

The oil on the spark plugs is the bigger issue, and may be related. If you have significant oil deposits on the plugs after just a short time running the engine then you've got a problem. Try removing the lower hose on your Inter Cooler to see if there is a sig. build up of oil there, if not then you can rule out leaky turbos.

It could also be a leaking gasket/seal that is causing oil to enter the combustion chamber as well as loss of boost. Take off the engine covers and see if you can see oil leaking out of the heads or block at the gaskets or seals.
