Default Help Needed: Took off TBB to inspect and

everything was fine. No tears. I have the 356T boot with the revised clamps. I also installed the bosch 710N's less than 3K miles. My car is a 02/01 and I've been running the 93 octane program from APR for 8 days. When on full throttle around 3500 plus the car feels like it's choking or struggling to climb in rev's. it also makes a very distinct ssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound, not dentist drill or high pitch whining sound but a loud rush of air or pressurized leaking air. It does this in stock or chipped mode.

The problem seems very similar to the below descriptions. This is why I took off the TBB but found nothing. Anyone have an idea what might be happening?

1)Power Loss - A TBB tear is usually accompanied by a noticable loss of power on hard acceleration. Most of the time..when you are just driving around on city streets...especially when it is cold outside (60 degrees or less)...the power loss is not that noticable...however when the car is heated up...so is the TBB...and if it is leaking boost...you will definitely feel the car feeling like it is being choked by the throat...with more throttle..you get no more acceleration...in fact, when you let off the throttle you get slightly more power..and a weird kinda thump noise. The RPM range that this seems most noticable is at about 3,500 - 6,000 rpm in 3rd gear.

2)Hissing sound during high boost - As the tear grows..you may get a hissing sound during the point when boost is supposed to be very high..like accelerating hard in 3rd gear from 55-80 mph. This sound will vary depending on where your tear is and the size of the tear...

Default Check the IC's, could have a bad core (end tank came apart)

You don't have an so that's not it. You put everything back nice and tight right?

Your intake tract is intact (didn't blow the hose from the MAF to the y-pipe?

Just things to check.. Could even be a IC hose

Default yeah i put everything back nice and tight hoping i solved

the issue, but it's still acting the same as it was before inspection.

work with me a little bit, i'm very new around here. the intake tract is the little hose that connects to the top of the tbb? and the maf sits on top? if so, i didn't find any tears or loose fitting on the hose.

now the IC hoses would be the larger diameter hoses that the plastic pipes connecting to the tbb are attached to? also assuming these hoses are attached to a smaller radiator looking device infront of the righ front and left front tires?

the sound seems to come from the left side of the car. almost underneath the passenger side or by the right side mirror.

i have some video(.avi) of a few runs i took tonight but they are very large 8MB to 32MB, not sure how i can get them up here. if someone has an upload page i can post them to that.

Default I feel your pain...

from experiance now i've learned a lot. 1st go to TBB, if not that then may be you MAF (mass air flow sensor) if not that then the EGT sensor (exhaust gas temperature sensor) or some other hoses. I never knew it would be so hard to maintain this car but for the week out of the month that it is healthy, what an experiance!!!

Default no - the MAF is connected to the large metal upside down "Y" shaped pipe that sits on top

Of the engine It connects via that big accordian type 3-4" hose that connects between the back of the big metal pipe If that MAF connector hose is loose, the car will run like you said, or even not run if it pops off

Default Re: Help Needed: Took off TBB to inspect and

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!!!!! I purchased a APR tuned ECU approx. 1 month ago and installed it. The car drives fine in stock mode, pulls hard all the way through to redline! The minute I put it in chip mode It pulls hard till about 3500 then all I hear is that air rushing sound and it doesn't pull hard. I took off my TBB also and had the newclamps and the 356T and it was fine. Also changed my BPVs to the TT ones. I took the car to Audi with the stock ECU and of course they said it was fine because like I said, in stock mode its fine. I feel I may have loose hose or torn hose. Am thinking of installing a SAMCO hose set but that won't be for like 3 weeks! If you find the problem PLEASE let me know via Email!!!

that's exactly what i'm feeling, stock fine, chip mode bad. I'm going in tommorrow to replace the EGT (exhaust gas temperature sensor) hopefully that will fix it.
