How to open hood that wont release?

A neighbor of mine with an A4 had some hood damage and when pulling the front hood latch it wont pull out and let the hood lift up. Does anyone know of a way to release the hood so he can open it up?

My hood release is not holding properly. I need to bend something just not sure what.
