Default How is the shifter connected to the linkage, 1 bolt, 2 bolts.....

somehow when they replaced my trans for the 2nd time, they must not have torqued it enough, cause it worked it's way loose and my car was rendered undriveable. Audi must have hired Bobo the Monkey to work on my car.

Default one bolt

the second connects the shifter to shifter assembly. either bolt becoming loose can make shifting difficult if not impossible

Tell them to torque it properly, and use loctite this time.

Default loctite is bad...

even with loctite, it'll still need adjustment
a few months in the future...
it's a lot easier to work with if you DON'T
use loctite... just tighten the hell out of it.

YMMV, but I'm a loctite user and never had any issues related to it's use.

Default So you would recommend over-torqueing the bolt, rather than using loctite?

Adjusting it in the future is no big deal with the loctite. You just need to have a steady hand to remove the bolt, clean the threads, re-apply loctite, and re-threat the bolt into the hole.

Default haven't had a problem yet... and i'm on my 9th initial short shifter install...

haven't used loctite on a single one, these
are people I see from time to time...
and i usually ask how the shortshifter is
holding up. I readjust mine every 3 months
or so... had it since last Nov/Dec.

So, unlike many dealer techs and tuning shops...
I'd know if any of these people had problems
over the long haul.
Dunno if i'm overstressing the threads or overtorquing
the bolts... but I haven't torqued a single one
yet... I just tighten em as much as possible.
Yes, I do have a torque wrench, so if i felt it
necessary, I could torque em.

Default I like it absolutely perfect.

i also readjust lights every now and then.
check tire pressure all the time.
check/adjust wheel bolts + retorque.
check brakes often... famous for my "brake CHECK!" routine.
couple of other things I check more often
than most people as well...
including all engine fluids.

dunno why... I just do.
