I don't understand why everyone is getting so upset with AOA about stolen cars
Since when is it the car manufacturers responsibility to keep your car from getting stolen. Shouldn't it be something that we should be responsible for as car owners. That's what securtity systems are for. I know the car already came with one but since when is a factory installed accessory worth anything. Just like stereo equipment. it is an afterthought, put in there for customer conveinience. Honda's, BMW's, Acura's, Toyota's .... all get stolen on a regular basis but not once have I ever heard anybody blame it on the manufacturer. We all spent 40g on a car, spend an extra $500 on a good aftermarker alarm.

Well, it's just a little too easy to steal
our cars apparently....screwdriver is all it takes....sheesh. Alarms are fairly useless. I think all the fuss isn't just about the cars getting stolen, but basically why the theft deterrent systems that Audi already has basically don't work.

Many much less expensive cars have standard Immobilizer chips...
and they are proven to drastically reduce car theft. Buy a Nissan Maxima and you get an immobilizer system...buy a $40k Audi and you don't?
Seems like a pretty glaring omission.

it knocked down Maxima thefts 78%. It defeats non-REALLY pro car thieves...
without the immobilizer signal, the ECU will NOT start the engine no matter what.
Only way to steal the car is flatbed it or tow it.

Would it be worth the extra $1000 it would add to the price
I'm sure the Maximas price was adjusted for that feature too. I think I would rather install a $1000 aftermarket alarm than pay AOA $1000 for a chip. Of course it would probably be better to have both, but at what cost?
