Default If the front ashtray is removed how much space is there behind the face of the console?

I've done some archive searching and it looks to be a big PITA to get the ashtray out, but I'm wondering if I go through the trouble to do it, does anyone know how far back the ashtray cavity goes? Just wondering if it's fairly open back there or whether something hangs down behind it or sticks up from below it.

If anyone has removed the ashtray and looked back there I would appreciate the info.

Thanks.

IIRC there is a big bar back there that holds up the radio

Default That's a major bummer. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks for the reply.

I wonder if there's another way to support the radio so something could be put in the ashtray slot.

Default There's not much space back there...

I removed my ashtray a while ago to put some other things there. I'd say you have about 3" in depth that you can use from the front of the ashtray to where the wires and connectors are. I don't remember a metal bar back there, but my stereo's been out for a couple of years, maybe I took that bar out then.

EFU? I moved my Fog/Rear Fog/ESP cluster and my hazard button down there. They fit if that helps.

Default ahhh... that definitely won't fit behind the ashtray or stereo! I would put it behind behind the

stereo. This isn't going to make sense, but if you look up and to the right of the gas pedal (looking at it from the driver's seat) above the "hump" that goes over the transmission, there is plenty of room to stuff that control unit out of site, I have a cell phone control unit there now - plenty of room and it stays put!
