They are 17x9 made by carlsson called 1/16.
I am thinking putting 235/45/17 pilots on them, or maybe 225/45/17 avs sport.
will they rub the suspension?

225's on a 9-inch rim will look terrible....
...heck, 225's on 8.5" rims look crappy, IMHO. Tire looks way too "stretched" on a rim that wide.

Tirerack has a great tire fitment guide......
Not all tires of a given size are optimized for the same wheel width. It's a safe bet that ANY 225 tire will work well on an 8" wheel, but some are actually better on a 7.5" wheel. A 9" wheel is simply too wide for the S4. It won't clear the suspension unless you get a really low offset, in which case it will protrude way too far out beyond the fenders. That'll be fine after you've done a widebody conversion, but what are you going to do in the meantime? My advice is to do the conversion first (about $11,000 in parts and labor) then find wheels to properly fit. 9" wheel with a 20mm offset should do it.
