Default immobilizer question

Bought a valet key from an Audi dealer for my 2001.5 B5 S4. Was 100% assured by the dealer that now all keys must be reprogrammed for the valet key to work because of the immobilizer chip in all of them including the valet key and even the small plastic one (1.5-hour labor!!!). Didn't do the reprogramming yet, but did a quick search on the forums and from the Ross-Tech web site got an impression that there is no immobilizer on US/Canada models. The valet key is just working fine right now. BTW, did the reprogramming some time ago when had to replace the electronic part one key fob (paid for an hour of labor).

Any idea on this would be greatly appreciated?
Thanks

Every dealer thinks the S4 has an immobilizer. Every thief knows it doesn't.

Default Yeah, the theives know more about our car's security system than the dealers; too bad that car

theives don't perform mechanical repairs, as they would likely be better at fixing the rest of our car's components than many dealers are capable of at the present time! ;-P

Default Definately no immobilizer...

Otherwise I would have to recode my keys when I swap ECU's, which I have never had to do.
