Default Its a posting party! Whats involved with changing diff and tranny fluid?

The one time I might actually be able to get useful info out of the damn Bentley manual, and its nowhere to be found...

Anyone have a list of steps involved in changing the rear differential fluid and tranny fluid, those who have done it? (Taner? Did you do yours, or did you get someone else to?)

I figure if I have the car up on stands to do the DTS, maybe I'll tackle the tranny too...

Default It's easy

I did this about 2 years ago before a track event to try and make the shifts alittle smoother. There is a drain plug for both the gearbox and rear diff. Once they have drained, you need to obviously put them back in. Then you pull a fill plug ( I cant remember exactly which one for the gearbox, but I believe it was the one on the left and alittle higher - near the drive shaft).

The procedure is in the Bentley Manual, I dont have the exact section handy. I believe the gearbox takes 2.5 quarts and the diff takes about 2 quarts. The procedure just says to fill with fluid until it reaches the fill-point.

I used Redline 75W-90, but I hear the MT-75 ( or maybe its MT-90) works well. In the diff, I ran out, so it has Castrol synthetic from the dealer.

Default hey, that might be Taner's site, but it's my directory...

I snagged the relevant Bentley pages and posted them on this site.

The center has 2 drain plugs and 1 fill plug, the rear diff has 1 drain plug and 1 fill plug.

The drain plugs are on the bottom, the fill plugs are on the side.

Some things to note...

Before you remove the drain plug(s), remove the fill plug so that air can enter and the fluid won't drain as erratically.

Another thing, you'll need a pump to get the fluid out of the bottle and into the fill location.

Last point, Rotate the wheels a couple times while filling to get the fluid moving around and help it settle, this should give you a better fill.

Default It felt moderately improved. Although I dont think it was

worth the effort. I would do it again, just to know that it is filled correctly with good fluid.
